This program will support the commercial development and validation of novel in vitro human cell-based tools for predicting the responses of individual patients to cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR)-directed therapeutics for cystic fibrosis (CF) lung disease. NHLBI anticipates that outcomes of successful SBIR projects will help attract strategic partners or investors to support ultimate commercialization of a personalized medicine platform that could accelerate translation of CFTR-directed therapy in patients with CF lung disease.

The purpose of this FOA is to encourage research that will advance our understanding of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) in health and disease and to stimulate research that complements previous efforts and focuses on the biology of joint function and the tissues that make up the TMJ. A better understanding of total joint structure and mechanics including the interactions of the skeletal, muscular, nervous, immune, and circulatory systems using new in vivo and in vitro models is needed. An expected outcome of this FOA is new knowledge that will provide a basis for developing novel approaches to prevent, diagnose, assess risk, and treat temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD).

The purpose of this announcement is to fund meritorious applications from small business organizations that aim to develop of opioid and adjuvant drug combinations within a single dosage form for treatment of a pain condition. The drug combination should provide improved analgesia when compared with the same dose (morphine equivalents) of opioid monotherapy. Such dosage forms should minimize opioid exposure while optimizing analgesia, in order to reduce risk of addiction and limit severity of other opiate adverse effects.
